BORDERING ON A ROUT

This was a comfortable friendly for the Fifers, who rattled in seven goals for one reply. In truth, there was a gulf in class, which might have been wider if the Black and Gold had put out a stronger team. But this was a day to play several trialists and youngsters, and it proved a success. Whilst it was hardly a day to make firm judgements, Stevie Crawford will have been pleased with the new, young, full-back pairing, and with the pace offered down the left by Johnstone and Tansey. Add the ball passing skills of Sloan in the first 45, and the sublime finishing of Linn throughout, and there is the basis for some confidence for the season ahead.

The goals came as follows:

11 mins - a deep free kick from the left finds Durie; he blasts home from 20 yards

35 mins - a 30 yard free kick from Linn bounces off ex-Fifer John Dodds; trialist Bryce fires the rebound home

45 mins - Linn fires low into the corner after skipping past a defender

Bobby Linn drives home the third goal on the stroke of half-time

65 mins - Linn picks up a loose ball; drives forward; and slots home

70 mins - a cross from Linn is met by trialist Bryce, who heads home for his second

73 mins - Selkirk score with a looping header after the Fife defence miss two opportunities to clear

75 mins - great work by Crawford and Linn; Young runs on and fires low into the net

Lloyd Young scores number six

77 mins - Linn sneaks into the box, and simply rolls the ball home
